Teeling Whiskey Distillery opened in 2015 in Newmarket Square in the Liberties — the first fully operational whiskey distillery built in Dublin in more than 125 years, reviving the city's distilling tradition in the district that was once the heart of Irish whiskey production. It was founded by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, whose family has a long lineage in the Irish whiskey business.
The guided tour walks through the working distillery, including the three copper pot stills — named Alison, Natalie and Rebecca after the founders' family — and the milling, mashing, fermentation and distillation process, with an explanation of what sets Irish whiskey apart (triple distillation and, in the classic style, no peat smoke). Tours run roughly every 20–30 minutes through the day and finish with a tasting; higher-tier tickets add premium, single-malt and cask-strength expressions.
The Liberties around the distillery is Dublin's historic whiskey and brewing quarter. The Guinness Storehouse, the Roe & Co distillery and the Pearse Lyons distillery (in a converted church) are all within walking distance, and the area has become one of the city's better districts for food and craft. Teeling is a 15-minute walk from St Patrick's Cathedral and the Coombe.
